Italy: 418,222 fines

In Italy, too, the police are fully checking whether the rules are being observed. Until recently, even in small villages, nobody ventured on the street because the carabinieri can be ready to issue a fine without mercy. Violators receive a fine of 206 euros or up to 3 months in prison.

The Italian police it even worked to check 270,000 people in one day and hand out 16,000 fines. That was at Easter. From March 11 to May 3, 418,222 people were fined for “unlimited travel.” The fines ranged from 206 to 3000 euros.

Germany: unknown number of fines

“If we stop trusting each other, we can pack up,” Chancellor Merkel said when asked if Germans will obey the rules. Merkel also assumes that citizens take their responsibility. Those who nevertheless do not, can count on peppered fines between 200 and 25,000 euros. For very serious offenses, where lives are at stake, a prison sentence of up to five years is even possible.

It is difficult to calculate how many fines have already been issued. Germany is a federal state, where each state enforces and fines in its own way.

It is clear, however, that the number of arrests has increased in recent weeks. In several cities, demonstrations are being held at the weekend against the corona measures. The police arrest people who do not keep their distance. In the capital Berlin, it has already rioted a few times.
