The Riau Islands Police, Divhubinter Mabes Polri, and the Ministry of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) conducted a raid in the Kara Industrial area, Batam City. A total of 88 foreign nationals from China were arrested in connection with cases of extortion through video call sex (VCS).
“This is joint operation between the National Police and China, this is a concrete step and a follow-up to the results of the 17th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) yesterday,” said Kabid Humas Polda Kepri Kombes Zahwani Pandra Arsyad. detikSumatraTuesday (29/8/2023).
“There are 88 foreign nationals from China who are secured. A total of 83 people are male and 5 are female,” he added.
Pandra explained that dozens of foreign nationals from China carried out the action video call sex with the victims. Then results video call used to blackmail the victim.
“The mode is they do sex videos or video scamming and extort victims through online communication networks,” he said.
Pandra said that so far, from the raid process, it is known that the victims of the perpetrators are still Chinese citizens. The Riau Islands Police are currently still investigating whether there were any victims from Indonesia.
