After a serious accident in Berlin-Rudow, one of the injured people died in a hospital. Berlin police announced on Saturday that an 87-year-old woman had succumbed to her serious injuries on Friday. The accident occurred on Thursday evening. A total of five people were injured.
According to police, a 40-year-old driver in a BMW was driving along Stubenrauchstrasse towards the Massante Bridge on Thursday at around 8:20 p.m. According to witnesses, he drove through a red light on Kanalstrasse. The BMW then collided with an Opel in which an 85-year-old driver and three women aged 76, 85 and 87 were traveling.
The heavy collision threw the Opel onto the sidewalk and it collided with a tree, where it came to a stop. The 87-year-old was trapped in the Opel. Firefighters freed her using technical rescue equipment. She was then taken to hospital by rescue helicopter. However, her injuries were so severe that the doctors could not save her life.
The 85-year-old Opel driver and the 76 and 85-year-old passengers were also injured in the accident. The two women were able to be discharged after outpatient treatment, while the man was admitted to hospital. The 40-year-old BMW driver complained of shoulder pain and was treated as an outpatient in a clinic. The police investigation into the circumstances of the accident is still ongoing.
