87.5 liters of blood – Waldkirch

Local council honors two Siensbachers for 100 and 75 blood donations.

At the meeting of the Siensbach local council, two special honors were on the agenda: Franz Schätzle and Roland Wehrle were honored for 100 and 75 voluntary blood donations, respectively.

“Since I was around 20 years old, I have donated blood three times a year,” said Franz Schätzle after the ceremony on Tuesday evening. A colleague at the time and a “stubborn Red Cross man” made him go to donate blood. “Then I just stuck with it.” Schätzle is not a club person, but he can do something good for the community through his blood donation. And that is really easy: “You just have to lie down and do nothing else.”

Roland Wehrle also started donating blood at a young age, through his father. “Through my work in the fire department, it is important to me to support the Red Cross as our partner,” says Wehrle, who is the local fire department commander. Blood is life-saving, especially for accident victims. Since it cannot be produced synthetically in comparison to drugs, it has to be donated.

“We take our hats off to so much willingness to donate,” said Stefan Pfister, chairman of the local DRK association in Waldkirch. Together, Schätzle and Wehrle made 175 donations, for which they gave a total of 87.5 liters of blood. “These are two very special and unusual achievements that were made for the good of the community,” said local councilor Michael Schmieder, who presented the two winners with their certificates with gold pins. He hopes that the two will become role models that will encourage more people to donate their blood. Schätzle and Wehrle agree: as long as they can, they will continue to donate their blood. After the next 25 they would even be honored again – but that is of secondary importance for them.
