86 Matahari Outlets Closed During Emergency PPKM, What Will It Be Like?

Jakarta

Emergency PPKM which will take place from 3-20 July 2021 requires all malls in Java and Bali to close. Then what’s the fate Sun where all the shops are inside the mall?

Matahari CEO Terry O’Connor admits, of course, this policy will have a significant impact on Matahari’s business. He described that currently the number of Matahari outlets in Java and Bali is 86 outlets and accounts for 56 percent of the company’s revenue.

“For your information, there are 89 Matahari outlets in Java and Bali. In total there are 148 outlets throughout Indonesia, and they contribute 56% of our revenue,” he said in a virtual press conference, Thursday (1/7/2021).

Terry admitted that he could not give an estimate of the potential loss from closing 86 outlets Sun during the Emergency PPKM. But he made sure it would be a bad thing for a retail company to lose 56% of its potential revenue.

“Of course, it is very difficult for all retail companies to lose 56% of their revenue. But I can’t give an estimate of how much our loss will be,” he said.

What the company also regrets is the implementation of the Emergency PPKM. Even though it’s only about 2 weeks more, but there are 3 weekends during 3-20 July 2021.

“This is a situation where we lose 56% of our revenue and this will actually last 3 weeks. Indeed it counts 2 weeks, but there are 3 weekends in it,” he said.

Even so, Terry emphasized that the company would still follow government policies. He is also grateful that this policy does not take place during Lebaran, a time when retail companies are gaining big sales.
