A serious traffic accident occurred in North Point the day before yesterday (5th). A taxi was suspected of crashing when the Fortress Hill Road was falling. Together with the taxi and male passengers, a total of 4 people were injured in the accident, 2 of whom are still in critical condition. The law enforcement department later arrested the 85-year-old brother involved in the incident and charged him with one count of “dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to others”. The magistrate adjourned the case until May 16 for further investigation. The magistrate pointed out that the circumstances of the case were serious, the defendant was older and had to take into account the safety of other road users and the defendant, so the defendant was required to surrender his driving license. The defendant was finally released on a cash bail of HK$5,000, and was required to surrender his travel documents and not leave Hong Kong, and to report to the Wong Tai Sin Police Station one day a week.

The 85-year-old defendant, Ni Cainong, was charged with one count of causing serious bodily harm by dangerous driving. The charge alleges that the defendant drove a taxi dangerously on the road at the junction of Fortress Hill Road (northbound) and King’s Road in North Point on March 5, 2023, causing serious bodily injury to Singh Tanya (成谭雅) and Zhu Shuangli. He said he understood aloud after hearing the charge read out in court.

According to the data, on the day of the incident, when the taxi driven by the defendant was driving along Fortress Hill Road towards Tai Keung Street, it was suspected that it had crashed when it fell off the slope. Three passers-by were injured in the accident, including an Indian woman and a female passerby who were seriously injured and unconscious. One of them fell in front of the taxi, and the other fell on the side of the taxi; the remaining one was a Filipino. The woman suffered injuries to her hands, while the male passenger on the taxi reported injuries to his feet.
