It is July 8 when the man opens an e-mail that appears to be from PostNL. After he clicks on a link in the email, a red field appears with the text: “Your account has been hacked.” A few hours later he gets a call from ING, he thinks. A so-called employee of the bank says that his account has indeed been hacked. He asks the victim, among other things, to log in to the ING environment and fill in his details, and he must also increase his daily limit.
Granddaughter
Because the employee comes across as very firm and credible, the victim follows all directions. While the telephone conversation is still ongoing, a so-called PostNL employee comes to his door and hands over his bank card to the victim.
Immediately after the man has handed in the pass, his granddaughter comes to visit. She immediately senses that the situation is not right and tells her grandfather to cut off the phone call. When his granddaughter then calls the ING fraud line, it turns out that five thousand euros have already been debited from the man’s account.

The police are now releasing images of the man who is suspected of having withdrawn the money on Jodenbreestraat around ten to four that afternoon. It is not clear whether the man in the images is also the one who came to collect the pass from the victim. For the time being, he is only suspected of pinning with the stolen debit card.
“Due to the cunning approach of these criminals, the 84-year-old victim fell into their trap with open eyes and he has a very bad feeling about it,” says Marijke Stor of the Amsterdam police. “We want to emphasize that banks do not work this way. They will not approach you by telephone and certainly not send someone to collect your bank card.”
The police would like to get in touch with people who recognize the suspect or people who have more information about him.
