83% of Peruvians disapprove of the management of President Dina Boluarte and 86% of the Congress of the Republic, according to a survey by the private company Datum published this Sunday by the newspaper El Comercio.
According to the authorities’ evaluation survey during February, disapproval of the Peruvian ruler dropped two points compared to last January, going from 85% to 83%, and her approval remained at 10%.
For its part, disapproval of Congress reached 86% and approval reached 8%, while 6% did not give an opinion on the issue.
The survey indicated that disapproval of the president of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otárola, reached 75%, one point less than in January, and his approval fell to 8%, the lowest since he took office.
The survey also consulted on the management of the Ministers of Economy, Alex Contreras; of the Interior, Víctor Torres, and of Education, Miriam Ponce, who received a disapproval of 63%, 68% and 60%, respectively.
Contreras was approved by 15% of those surveyed, Torres by 11%, and Ponce by 19%.
Datum also pointed out that disapproval of the mayor of Lima, Rafael López Aliaga, reached 65%, and his popularity dropped to 27%, the lowest since he took office in January 2023.
The degree of trust in institutions
When asked about the degree of trust in the institutions, 38% of those surveyed stated that they trust a lot in the company that collects garbage in their area, 29% in the Armed Forces, 28% in the company that provides energy electricity and 28% in the company that supplies the water.
Other organizations, such as state hospitals and the EsSalud Social Security system, received 13% trust, while the National Police received only 12% of mentions.
When referring to national expectations for 2024, 44% considered that we will have “a worse country”, 39% that “it will be the same as today”, 12% that we will have “a better country” and 5% that does not know.
In this regard, analyst Katherine Zegarra assured El Comercio that Peru faces “a serious crisis of representation” and that there is “a situation of stagnation” regarding the disapproval of the main authorities.
Also political analyst Pedro Tenorio considered that a possible remodeling of the cabinet of ministers does not guarantee Boluarte that he can change “the trend of poor approval that accompanies it,” since citizens “demand concrete actions and results” in government policies.
The survey was conducted from February 3 to 6 among 1,208 people nationwide and has a margin of error of 2.8% and a confidence level of 95%, according to the technical sheet provided by Datum. EFE
