800,000 extra vaccines to prevent flu wave | Inland

Thanks to the corona measures, the flu has barely made the rounds in the past 18 months. But the more corona restrictions are removed, the greater the chance that the flu will strike violently. The population is now less resistant and more susceptible. In another scenario, the flu virus would have been dealt such a heavy blow that we would have jumped out of it.

But the government has ordered many more flu vaccines just to be safe, to avoid overloading the health system. “It is crucial to vaccinate people who are at risk of complications from the flu as widely as possible,” says Flemish Minister of Health Wouter Beke (CD&V). The flu shots are given from mid-October to the end of November.

The decision to order a large stock of flu vaccines was taken in July by the Interministerial Conference on Public Health.
