Hermosillo, Sonora; August 4, 2023.- From November 2022 to July 2023, 42,292 vaccines against the human papillomavirus (HPV) have been applied, reaching 80 percent progress in the state, reported the Ministry of Health ( SSA) of the Government of Sonora.
According to the medical agency, there is a goal for the application of biologicals of 52,866 before the end of 2023.
It should be remembered that HPV is considered the most frequent sexually transmitted infection (STI), affecting more than half of sexually active women and men at some point in their lives.
The quadrivalent vaccine used in Mexico provides protection against the four serotypes of the virus (six, 11, 16, and 18) associated with most cases of morbidity and mortality.
The institution explained that serotypes 16 and 18 of this virus are responsible for approximately 70 percent of all cases of cervical, anal, and oropharyngeal cancer.
The SSA highlighted that vaccination actions are carried out permanently intramural through the vaccination modules of the health sector units, as well as extramural through brigades and special vaccination days. It should be noted that this vaccine can be requested in urban and rural health centers in the state, which is free of charge.
