On the other hand, it was found that the neutralizing ability decreased significantly for the South African mutation. Remdesivir, which is already being used as a treatment, has an inhibitory effect on both the existing mutant virus and the UK and South African mutant viruses.

Rekirona State, South Africa’s powerless to mutate… “Recommended to restrict use for the confirmed person”
Rekkirona, which received conditional approval for phase 3 clinical trials from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety on the 5th, was confirmed to have excellent neutralizing ability in six types of existing mutant viruses, S·L·V·G·GH·GR. Similar results were found for the British mutant virus. However, the efficacy was very low against the South African mutant virus. Of the 80 mutant viruses identified in Korea so far, the UK mutation is the largest with 64, followed by South Africa with 10 and Brazil with 6.
Jun-wook Kwon, head of the 2nd Division of the Central Defense Countermeasures Headquarters, said, “If you look at some overseas papers, there is a corona 19 virus spike protein called’E484K’ in South African and Brazilian mutants. Also, the efficacy was very low,” he said, “a situation that was predicted to some extent.” He added, “For the South African mutant stocks, virtually the neutralization ability was hardly found in numerical terms,” he added.
Rekirona is currently undergoing further analysis at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), organized by Celltrion. After that, a comprehensive analysis through animal experiments will also be conducted.
First, the authorities have decided to recommend restricting the use of Rekirona to confirmed cases of the South African mutant virus. However, even in the case of a confirmed case from a mutant virus epidemic area in South Africa, it plans to supply Rekirona if requested by a medical staff before checking for a mutant virus infection.

‘Over 4000 doses’ Remdesivir “catches both British and South African mutations”
On the other hand, it was analyzed that Gilead Science’s Remdesivir, which has been officially approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, is being used as a treatment for Corona 19, which is also effective in mutations in South Africa. It can catch all of the existing mutant viruses S, GH, and GR, as well as British mutants.
According to the Central Defense Agency, Remdesivir was supplied to 119 hospitals and 4313 patients as of 0 o’clock on the 11th.
