80 couples get married in Oriente prison

Mexico City, In the Oriente men’s prison, 80 couples got married, 13 people were recognized and 16 minors were registered to give legal certainty to the families of people who are deprived of their liberty.

The Undersecretariat of the Penitentiary System, in coordination with the General Directorate of the Civil Registry of Mexico City, carried out the ceremony. So far in 2024, a total of 274 weddings, 29 registrations and 36 recognitions of people held in Penitentiary Centers in the capital have been carried out.

The 2024 Marriage, Registration and Recognition Campaign is in operation seeking to reestablish family ties, provide legal certainty to the children of prisoners and guarantee the best interests of children given the importance of the family for social reintegration.

During the event, José Luis Miranda López, judge of the Civil Registry, congratulated the couples for formalizing their personal relationships that will allow them to have legality.

While the executive director of prevention and social reintegration of the Penitentiary System, Israel Sánchez Rojas, recognized that despite the circumstances they assumed the commitment of marriage and their children.

After the ceremony, the celebration was organized, which was enlivened by the musical group of the Oriente Lobos prison and the Sinaloa band of the Secretariat of Citizen Security.

The couples broke the cake and enjoyed the event in the company of their families.
