The boy ended up in the large fish pond, but it was not immediately noticed. It wasn’t until around 11 p.m., after the match, that his parents couldn’t find him. When they found the boy’s shoes and saw a ball floating on the water, the alarm was immediately raised. Fire divers eventually found him underwater. He could no longer be resuscitated. That reports Het Nieuwsblad.

Mayor Hugo De Waele of the municipality of Erpe-Mere confirms the story.

Police, ambulance workers and fire divers from surrounding places rushed to the water after the report of the missing boy. In the search, football supporters present parked their cars with their engines running and lights on around the pond to help the emergency services shine.

At around midnight, divers found the child at the bottom of the pond. But all help came too late. Rescuers took care of the family. The managers of ‘t Vissershof were very upset after the incident. Exactly how the drama could have happened is now under further investigation.
