8 vaccines, mandatory for enrolling children in kindergarten and school

The project, which is to be put up for public debate, appears against the background of the decrease in the last year by 19% of the number of vaccinated children in Bucharest. Similar vaccination crises have occurred in Ukraine, France, Spain or Germany, where children have died due to 100% vaccine-preventable diseases.

In Romania, eight vaccines for children against hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis, measles, mumps and rubella will become mandatory.

BCG, the vaccine against severe forms of tuberculosis, is not included in the version put up for public debate, but medical sources, quoted by Hotnews, claim that this vaccine will be included in the mandatory category.

According to the draft, “for mandatory vaccinations, parent information is mandatory and consent is presumed.” That is, the parent will have to sign a statement refusing to vaccinate their child, otherwise it is considered ex officio that he agrees to the vaccination.

The enrollment of children in kindergartens and schools, state or private, will be possible only after the presentation by the parents of the proof of vaccination of the child against the diseases established by the Ministry of Health. Only children “who prove definitive medical contraindications for certain vaccinations” are excluded.

Heavy fines are imposed:

  • Fines from 5,000 to 10,000 lei (1120 Euro – 2250 Euro) will receive:

Kindergartens and schools that accept enrollment of children without a doctor’s certificate attesting to age-appropriate vaccination.
Public health departments that do not ensure the storage of vaccines in adequate conditions.
Family doctors and doctors involved in vaccination activities that do not comply with legal provisions and are on the third violation.

Fines from 2,500 to 5,000 lei they will receive the local authorities that do not identify the situations of medical neglect of the child.

Fines from 1,000 to 2,500 lei schools that violate the law by keeping unvaccinated children in the community one year after the establishment of the vaccination recovery schedule and that do not notify this situation to the county vaccination commission will receive.
