8 things you should know about the new Kia Niro

Kia unveiled the new generation Niro at the “Seoul Mobility Show”. The compact SUV will be offered in two hybrid and one electric versions.

Five years after the launch of the crossover, Koreans are coming up with a new generation of their SUV, which benefits from a completely changed exterior design and with an interior that has undergone significant changes.

Below we will tell you the most important information about the new Kia Niro that you should know.

The interior is made of recycled materials

1. Aesthetically, the new Kia Niro enjoys the lines of the new design philosophy “Opposites United”, which we admired two years ago on the HabaNiro concept. This philosophy is also inspired by nature by choosing colors, materials and finishes that aim to achieve a balance between “an environmentally responsible approach and a future-oriented perspective.”

2. The Korean SUV has received a completely redesigned front end with headlights and daytime running lights with restyled LEDs and offers a two-tone body. At the back, we notice the boomerang-shaped LED taillights, which extend to the ceiling along the very wide “C” upright.

3. At the same time, the interior in turn received an upgrade. It consists of a driver-oriented dashboard, a fully digital dashboard, a generously sized central touch screen and a new futuristic gearbox selector. Customers of the new Niro will also have access to ambient lighting.

4. As a clear statement of Kia’s commitment to the sustainability of the models in the range, the new Niro received a ceiling and a set of seats made of recycled materials. In addition, the paint on the door panels does not contain isomers of benzene, toluene and xylene to minimize the harmful impact on the environment.

Two hybrid versions and one electric

5. Technically, Kia has only stated that the new Niro will be offered in two hybrid versions (HEV and PHEV) and an electric one. The Koreans did not provide details about the engines and other technical information.

6. Instead, Kia announced that the new generation Niro has received the “Greezone Drive Mode” technology through which the compact SUV will automatically switch from hybrid mode to 100% electric mode in residential areas, near schools or hospitals.

7. At the same time, this function “recognizes” the preferred areas of the driver such as home or work as green areas where driving will be done exclusively in electric mode. For this, the areas will have to be entered in the navigation system.

8. The new generation Kia Niro will be launched in 2022 and at the same time the details of the versions dedicated to each region, including Europe, will be announced.
