8 “soft skills” employers want to see on your resume

When applying for a job, there are many ways to optimize your resume. You can check to match your clock with the priorities of the employer you are applying to. You need to make sure that you list what is most important to the prospective employer in terms of experience. You can include any of your more significant achievements, such as exceeding sales goals, for example, CNBC writes. You can include a link to your LinkedIn profile.

According to career experts, there is one group of skills that is crucial and you should include in the list of so-called “soft skills”. The overwhelming majority, or 93 percent, of employers say “soft skills play a big role in their decision to hire,” said Ian Siegel, co-founder and CEO of ZipRecruiter, in the company’s recent The Job Market Outlook report.

Soft skills include a wide range of abilities. “I’d say overall communication is very high on that list, given how people work in different situations,” says Christine Kelly, chief marketing officer at CareerBuilder.

ZipRecruiter lists some of the most in-demand soft skills on its platform. Here’s who they are, as well as the number of jobs on the site requiring the skill for their workers.

1. Communication skills: required for 6.1 million jobs

2. Customer Service: Skill listed in 5.5 million listings

3. Planning: present in 5 million listings

4. Good time management skills: This skill is listed as a must in 3.6 million listings

5. Project Management: 2.8 million are the jobs that want this skill

6. Analytical thinking: 2.7 million listings require this

7. Ability to work independently: for 2 million jobs, this is a must-have skill

8. Flexibility: The number of jobs that require this skill is 1.3 million

As for the communication skill, it is mostly required because of remote and hybrid work, which rely heavily on technology. How you respond to someone who emailed you matters, experts say.

When it comes to planning and time management, “no matter what role you have, if you can’t organize your time,” you can’t be effective, career experts say.

When it comes to flexibility, “people really need to be able to respond to situations, join Zoom meetings, be able to manage their messages.”

Include these soft skills of yours by giving specific examples of how you’ve used them on the job.
