Al-Marsad Journal: The WebMD medical website has revealed that bad breath can be an indication of any of the following symptoms or diseases.
1- Diabetes
Bad breath in some cases is a sign that the body is using fat for fuel instead of glucose, which is likely due to a severe decrease in the hormone insulin, and in this case, you need to see a doctor quickly and perform the necessary medical tests.
2- snoring
The mouth can become dry if a person sleeps with their mouth open or snores while sleeping.
3- esophageal acid reflux
A person with this condition has stomach acid flowing the wrong way, backing up the esophagus. It can cause an unpleasant odor and sometimes causes bits of food or liquids to come out of the mouth.
4- Teeth and gums
Food residue in the teeth can also cause bacteria to grow, but this problem can be overcome or reduced by using a good toothbrush and floss before bed.
5- Renal failure
One of the most common symptoms in the later stages of kidney failure is bad breath. When the disease reaches its peak and the kidneys cannot eliminate waste, doctors resort to dialysis, usually with a machine that helps filter the blood, or kidney transplants.
6- Respiratory infections
Colds, coughs, and sinus infections can cause mucus-filled bacteria to build up in the nose and mouth. These bacteria can lead to an unpleasant odor, which usually disappears once you have recovered from a cold.
7- Drought
Not getting enough water to drink causes dehydration, so there isn’t enough saliva that normally cleanses bacteria from your mouth. And the accumulation of bacteria can lead to an unpleasant odor from the mouth.
8- Tonsil stones
Some develop what is called the formation of tonsil stones in that area in the back of the throat. Tonsil stones usually don’t cause any problems, but they can sometimes irritate the throat and bacteria can grow on them, making breathing uncomfortable.
