Formula 1, F1, is a special sport.
This weekend we got a new champion.
It was a crash
and a timely change of tires
who decided everything.
We take it from the beginning.
The race was in Abu Dhabi
on Sunday afternoon.
Challenger Max Verstappen
had to start at the front.
He had driven the fastest
the day before.
Master Lewis Hamilton
started in place two.
In F1, every race starts
with that five red lights
lights up one by one.
When the last light is on
goes out all at once.
Then the race is on.
When the lights went out
i Abu Dhabi hade
Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen
exactly the same number of points.
That meant it
who came first in the finish
would win
the whole championship, the World Cup.
Lewis Hamilton started best.
He drove around Max Verstappen immediately.
Lewis Hamilton was too
fastest during almost the entire race.
He led big when it just
was a couple of laps left.
Then something happened
which is not uncommon in F1.
A driver crashed.
The difference this time
was that it decided
the whole championship.
After Nicholas Latifi
had crashed it became
namely a break in the race.
Then Max Verstappen fit
on changing tires.
Lewis Hamilton did not.
When the break was over
fuck Max Verstappen
just start
after Lewis Hamilton.
Then there was one lap left.
With their new, faster tires
Max Verstappen succeeded
drive past Lewis Hamilton.
A short while later
he was also the first to finish
and winner of the World Cup.
– I fought the whole race.
And so we got the chance
on the last lap.
It is fantastic,
says Max Verstappen.
Max Verstappen is it
first Dutchman ever
who wins the World Cup in F1.
He is also the first
new champion in several years.
Since 2014, Lewis has Hamilton
won all but one year.
In addition, his team has Mercedes
won every time.
F1’s new champion
driving for Red Bull Racing.
– I love my team.
And I hope we do
can do this
for another ten, fifteen years,
says Max Verstappen.
