It is chaos
in the Dubai area of the country
United Arab Emirates.
It has become
major floods
after a big storm
with thunder and rain.
In one day, more rain came
than it usually comes
in a whole year.
A man must have died
when a big wave
swept away his car.
Schools have had to close
and many people
working at home.
Airplanes have not been able to
take off or land in Dubai.
The authorities have
sent out trucks to
try to pump out the water.
Most roads
has no drains or wells
where the water can drain away.
It very rarely rains in the country.
There is mostly sand and desert.
The authorities say
that the rain is historic.
It has never rained so much
since the country began
check the weather in 1949.
It has also been
big storm with rain
in neighboring Oman
the last few days.
There have at least 18 people
died in floods.
Several of them were children.
