Eight bodies were found from a gravel mine that collapsed on Sunday in Zambia, in a terrible accident that happened in the morning, about 45 kilometers east of the capital, Lusaka, according to what the police announced on the evening

The police said: As a result of the accident, which occurred as a result of a collapse at the mine site, unfortunately there were casualties near Chongwe, adding that rescue teams worked hard throughout the day to unknown number of people carrying gravel on the site to retrieve it. during the tragedy.

The police indicated that the rescue operation, which was stopped in the afternoon due to difficult conditions on the site, is to start again at dawn on Monday.

In addition to paramedics, firefighters were sent in and a special excavator was hired to participate in rescue operations.

There are many mining areas in Zambia and fatal accidents are frequent.

In December 2023, around 30 miners were killed in the collapse of a copper mine in the north of the country after a landslide caused by heavy rain.
