8 Indonesian Companies Included in Forbes Global 2000 List – Bank Rakyat Indonesia, Bank Mandiri, Telkom Indonesia


JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The 20th anniversary edition of the Global Ranking 2000 of the world’s largest companies shows how much has changed since the early years of the 21st century.

In the release of Forbes Global 2000, there are 8 Indonesian companies that are included in the list, and are dominated by state-owned companies. Among them, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BBRI), which is in 307th position globally.

Then, PT Bank Mandiri (BMRI) is in 418th position, followed by PT Telkom Indonesia (TLKM) in 787th place, Bank Negara Indonesia (BBNI) in 930th position, and Garuda Indonesia (GIAA) in 1,572th place.

The rest are well-known companies in Indonesia, such as Bank Central Asia (BBCA), Bayan Resources (BYAN), and Adaro Energy (ADRO).

3. Bank Central Asia (assets 88.15 billion US dollars, market valuation 75.6 billion US dollars)
4. Telkom Indonesia (assets 18.5 billion US dollars, market valuation 28.15 billion US dollars)
5. Bank Negara Indonesia (assets 66.1 billion US dollars, market valuation 11.7 billion US dollars)
6. Bayan Resources (assets 3.9 billion US dollars, market valuation 46.9 billion US dollars)
7. Adaro Energy (assets 10.7 billion US dollars, market valuation 5.9 billion US dollars)
8. PT Garuda Indonesia (assets 6.2 billion US dollars, market valuation 393 million US dollars)

Meanwhile, the top three positions on the Forbes Global 2000 list included JPMorgan Chase which recorded revenues of US$179.9 billion, assets of US$3.7 trillion and profits of US$41.8 billion.

In second place is the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) with total assets of US$653.8 billion, and a market valuation of US$2.05 trillion. Meanwhile, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) is in third position with total assets of US$6.1 trillion and a market valuation of US$203 billion.

Last year, first place was taken by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, which has now dropped to 338 due to unrealized losses in its investment portfolio.

Global 2000 ranks the world’s largest companies using four metrics, including sales, profits, assets and market value.

There are 58 countries represented by public companies on the list. The US leads with 611 companies in the ranking, and China comes in second with 346 Global 2000 companies.

“We used the last 12 months of financial data available to us as of May 5, 2023 to calculate the factors used in our ranking,” as quoted by Forbes.
