Habit-habit which has been considered healthy, turns out to be secretly making weight gain. Anything?

Numbers on the scale are often stressful. Many wonder, why is losing weight so difficult? A survey in America found that the biggest obstacles that make weight loss difficult are lack of willpower, lack of motivation, healthy eating patterns and fighting hunger.

However, it turns out that there are efforts that are considered capable of losing weight, but have the opposite effect. Here are the ‘healthy’ habits that actually make you gain weight.

1. Replacing sugar with artificial sweeteners

Many artificial sweeteners or sugar substitutes label themselves as healthier options than regular sugar. There are also a number of packaged foods or drinks labeled sugar-free. These offers look healthy and tempting but they are not entirely so.

As reported by Insider, when manufacturers remove sugar from products, they often add unhealthy fats such as palm oil and cream to add flavor.

Meanwhile, there are also those who use sugar alcohols which can have a laxative effect if consumed excessively.

2. Continue to exercise

Exercise is one way to lose weight. It is better not to exercise seven days in a row because the body needs time to recover.

Jay Cardiello, fitness expert among artists including Jennifer Lopez, calls the body enough time to recover while reducing the risk of injury.

He also suggests taking time off for 1-2 days per week.

3. Relying on ‘healthy’ snacks

Snacking is not something that is forbidden even if you are losing weight. It’s fine to enjoy a snack as long as you pay attention to nutrition and portions.

It’s just that some people still rely on healthy and sometimes misleadingly labeled snacks like ‘whole grain’, ‘gluten free’, ‘low fat’. It is better to check the packaging label and nutritional content again. Sometimes these snacks are even high in sugar and fat.

4. Consumption of high calories from drinks

You have reduced the consumption of calories from food. But what about drinks? Unknowingly, calorie intake from drinks is even higher.

Drinks with ’empty calories’ such as soda, packaged juice, wine, beer, latte mean high calories but no nutrition.

“Liquid calories from soda, juice and alcohol can add up quickly and contribute to weight gain. Stick to water or low-to-zero calorie drinks and save your calories for nutrient-dense foods,” explains dietitian Trista Best as reported by Eat This , Not That!.
