Has a pattern eat healthy ones will help maintain health brain. Therefore, be careful about foods that damage the brain.
Dark chocolate, avocado and fatty fish; Bone broth, berries, and broccoli are all brain-boosting superfoods. However, there are many foods that have the opposite effect and can weaken your intelligence, thereby affecting your memory and mood.
Therefore, it is important to identify these foods and eliminate them from your daily diet to reduce their impact.
Here are eight foods that damage the brain:
1. Fried foods
Fried chicken and french fries won’t just expand your waistline; These foods can also be bad for your brain.
In a study published in 2016 in the Journal of Nutritional Science, people who consumed a lot of fried foods scored poorly on cognitive tests that evaluate learning, memory and brain function. In contrast, those who consumed more plant-based foods scored higher.
“Scientists think this may have something to do with inflammation and a reduction in the size of brain tissue,” said nutritionist Kristin Kirkpatrick, quoted from The Healthy.
“When you look at aspects of one of the great brain studies—the MIND diet—it becomes clear which foods can cause or reduce inflammation in the brain.
2. Added sugar
This includes various sweet drinks and packaged drinks.
You probably know to stay away from soft drinks, carbonated drinks and others. However, be wary of packaged fruit juice drinks, energy drinks and packaged sweet tea.
The same reason why soda is bad for your brain: sugar.
“High amounts of sugar cause nerve damage” because it triggers inflammation, says Wesley Delbridge, a nutritionist and spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
A study published in 2017 in Alzheimer’s & Dementia supports this. Researchers found that people who regularly consumed sugary drinks tended to have poorer memory, smaller overall brain volume, and a much smaller hippocampus—a part of the brain important for learning and memory—than those who didn’t. Avoid drinks sweetened with sugar. Instead of fruit juice or sweetened tea, try sweetened water or tea with slices of orange, lemon, or lime.
