8 European Countries Set Covid Records, Russia’s Death Reaches 1,247

Countries Europe is experiencing a spike in cases Covid-19. Recently, a number of countries have even broken Covid-19 records, both in the number of cases and in the number of deaths.

The surge in Covid-19 cases has made the World Health Organization (WHO) even declare that Europe will become the epicenter of the world’s corona.

The WHO has even warned that the number of deaths from Covid-19 in Europe could reach half a million by February 2022 if the trend of infections continues the same.

Not only that, WHO Director for Europe, Hans Kluge, said that the surge in Covid-19 cases in 53 countries in the European region was now very worrying.

“We are, once again, the epicenter of transmission. The current rate of transmission in 53 countries on the European continent is a serious concern,” Kluge was quoted as saying. AFP, Tuesday (9/11).

Here are the countries that have broken Covid-19 records recently:

1. Russia

Russia broke a record daily death toll from Covid-19 on Wednesday (17/11). A total of 1,247 people died from corona virus infection in 24 hours.

The Russian Covid-19 Task Force also reported the addition of 36,626 daily positive cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. A total of 2,966 of them are in Moscow.

Earlier this month, Russia also broke a record daily addition of 41,335 cases on November 6.

2. Germany

Germany recorded a record addition of daily Covid-19 cases with 50,196 coronavirus infections on Thursday (11/11). According to German health authorities, the figure is the first daily cases to hit more than 50,000 since the pandemic began last year.

This figure is higher than the previous record case recorded the day before, Wednesday (10/11), with 37,120 corona infections.

3. Holland

The Netherlands became the first Western European country to implement a lockdown due to the Covid-19 spike. The Pinwheel Country took this decision after reporting a record Covid-19 case with 16,300 cases on Thursday (11/11).

Under the lockdown rules, bars, restaurants and other non-essential shops are required to close at 7 p.m. for at least three weeks starting Saturday (11/13).

4. Hungary

Hungary broke the record for daily Covid-19 cases since March this year. Reuters reported, as many as 10,265 new cases were recorded on Wednesday (17/11).

This figure is also close to the previous record addition of 11,265 daily cases, as the country faced a third wave.

Hungary itself is a country that implements quite lax social restrictions and has a vaccination rate below the European Union average.
