A black van hit several cyclists on Voorburggracht in Oudkarspel this evening: it hit at least eight people, five of whom were injured. Two are even seriously injured. It was about a group of young people. The driver continued to drive after the collision.

A police spokesman said that a group of cyclists was hit by the vehicle around 5.30 am. According to a witness, the driver of the van wanted to overtake the eight cyclists and this went wrong.
The police could not yet confirm this scenario: an investigation is currently being conducted. The driver of the bus drove on after the accident and the police started a search.
Residents were also asked to take a good look around. After half an hour, the bus was found and the driver arrested.

Police are looking for people who witnessed the accident. “We also understand that if you see something like this, it can be intense. If there is a need for victim support, they can contact us,” said a police spokesperson.
