In the successful road movie “791 km” with Iris Berben and Joachim Król, a group of different characters set off in a taxi from Munich to Hamburg. There is a lot of talking, arguing, but also laughter.

An autumn storm paralyzes train traffic and nothing works at Munich Central Station. The stranded people deal with the situation more or less casually. The young couple Tiana and Philipp, for example: She – clearly analytical, career-oriented and with a noticeable penchant for self-optimization – absolutely has to go to Hamburg because she wants to give an important presentation. He – slouchy and relaxed – would rather chill in the hotel. Then there’s an argument.
Five different characters in a small space
But at least the train offers travel vouchers. And so, in addition to the couple, the eco-friendly old 68-year-old Marianne also comes to the car, whose switched-on taxi sign signals that it is ready for action, even if the grumpy driver apparently missed it:
“Well, I have to go to Hamburg.”
“Yes, me too.”
“Well, let’s share this thing then.”
“Get out of my taxi!”
“We have vouchers.”
“Crap.” Movie scene
The driver doesn’t want to miss out on the money. Besides, as will turn out later, he was on his way to Bad Bramstedt anyway. Also part of the party is an initially silent young girl in a red down vest, who everyone has almost overlooked, but who now sits firmly in the middle of the back seat.
Opportunities for rapprochement
Lena Urzendowski as Susi (l.) and Iris Berben as Marianne.
And so the five completely different people inevitably set off together. They learn things about others that they would sometimes rather not have found out. Different life plans and philosophies collide. But since there is no way out, the other person is also listened to. Conversations and sympathies arise where you would never have expected them. An opportunity for rapprochement that is far too often left behind in the social discourse of our time.
Old hippie and emeritus sociology professor Marianne has to deal with realo-down-to-earthness filled with existential fear. Susi in the red down vest obviously has psychological problems, but she is as annoying as she is endearing, and the taxi driver, who is anything but politically correct, is not as intolerant as he initially seems.

“791 km”: Successful tragicomedy
There is a lot of talking, arguing, but also laughter. As with “Life is not for cowards”, the screenwriter Gernot Griksch has written a successful tragicomedy. Joachim Król as Joseph and Iris Berben as Marianne lead the cast in terms of experience, but it is primarily Lena Urzendowski who temporarily takes on a leading acting role as Susi.
You probably won’t find this film in the railway’s entertainment program in the future, because if the train traffic had run smoothly, the story wouldn’t have existed at all. In this respect, an unplanned train cancellation also had a positive side!

Even when they are over 60, men are considered pretty cool by younger people. Women, on the other hand, have a much harder time on stage and in film as they get older. more
