The governor on Monday created a working group with his counterparts from five other states in the northeast of the United States, to develop a common plan for the gradual lifting of containment measures.
The move appeared to irritate US President Donald Trump, who assured Monday that he had sole authority to decide whether to resume non-essential activities.

Tuesday, he accused Andrew Cuomo of having “begged” from him to obtain his support, which Donald Trump claims to have granted him, and of now wanting his “independence”.
“The president seems to want to look for a fight,” observed the governor, while warning that he was “not interested”.
“All of this is too important to enter into political games,” he continued. “It’s about making the right decisions and working together.”
Asked about his statements, during morning broadcasts Tuesday, challenging the president the powers he attributed to himself, the Democrat said that Donald Trump’s position was contrary to the American Constitution.
“He presents himself as the king,” he said. “This statement cannot go unanswered. […] Its powers are not limitless. ”
