74-Year-Old British Man Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Molesting 10-Year-Old Boy in the 80s

After he molested a ten-year-old boy over several years in the 80s, British Glenn Langrish had continued to live a life of freedom. Now, however, the freedom has come to an end.

The 74-year-old moved to Sweden after committing abuse against the boy. A 13-year international investigation recently yielded results.

Now Langrish, also known by the name Glenn Stephens, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the abuses.

Moved to Sweden

British police state in a press release that Langrish was working at a workshop, when in 1983 he came into contact with the ten-year-old boy. The two agreed to meet. It was the start of six years of abuse.

The man was imprisoned for other offenses in 1989, but was released again in 1994. He then moved to Sweden and changed his name. It was not until 2011 that the boy who was subjected to the abuse reported the cases to the police. It was the start of an extensive hunt for the Briton in several countries.

In 2016, the police discovered that he lived in Vendelsö outside Stockholm. He had then switched to Swedish citizenship, and thus could not be extradited to Great Britain. Seven years later, the police were still able to pounce, when the 74-year-old was traveling to Poland.

– Can rebuild life

This week, Langrish was sentenced for the abuses he carried out in the 80s. In court, the now 51-year-old man, who was subjected to the abuse when he was a boy, told how it has affected his life.

– Until I opened up about this to my wife, it was my “dirty secret”, something I lived with for 40 years. But now you are known to be guilty of what you know you did to me. It has taken a long time to meet you in court, but now the jury has seen through your lies, and I can start rebuilding my life, the man said during the trial.

Becki Buckley from the police told the court that Langrish thought he could hide in Sweden and thus escape punishment.

“This investigation should send a clear message to all victims of abuse that we will never give up our job to get you the justice you deserve,” Buckley said.
