74 decibels recorded in Castaños street in Alicante this weekend | Radio Alicante | Present

After this weekend, the second without a curfew, the residents of the Traditional Center of Alicante denounce the increase in noise in an area where “the opening of nightlife is being noticed.”

According to the meters of the Alicante City Council, on the night from Saturday to Sunday, in some area of Castaños street, 74 decibels were reached before closing, when the maximum allowed at night is 45.

The residents regret the inaction of the Alicante City Council to enforce a sentence of September 2019, and demand the necessary measures to reduce the impact and noise pollution of leisure in the traditional center of Alicante.

The president of the neighborhood association, Alcázar Moreno, regrets that in this area the increase in night stands has caused a damaging acoustic saturation for the neighbors and that the noise is increasing, even “more than before the pandemic,” she concludes.

From the Alicante City Council they have ensured that after the pandemic and with the relaxation of the measures they have begun the studies that advance in the record of the Acoustically Saturated Zone (ZAS) and that they comply with the sentence.

“Now is the time, municipal sources say, to start the measurements, once normality is restored and nightlife is going to open.” According to these sources, noise monitoring campaigns have been carried out in the months of July and August, during the day. Now, they add, with the end of the curfew, another campaign is started to measure at night and that will last between one and two months.

The council recognizes that the increase in noise may have occurred and recalls that the contributions to complete the report have been requested from the councils involved. He also points out that he has been giving an account of all the actions to the court and that he has accepted “well, they say, the established plan.”

Meanwhile, on the other hand, this weekend there has been a decrease in penalties for “bottles” in Alicante. The City Council has reported the reduction in fines and there are 45 complaints imposed for alcohol consumption on public roads.

The police force dissolved groups in the Ereta, Virgen de la Cruz, Ramón y Cajal park and San Juan beach on nights from Friday to Sunday.
