/ world today news/ 73,614 Russian citizens and 30 companies with Russian owners bought property in Bulgaria from 2006 to 2016, according to a report by the Registration Agency, published in “Dnevnik” on September 30.
The most Russian property is in the Burgas region, which is preferred by 58,240 Russian citizens. Next is Varna, where 9,628 citizens of Russia own properties, and Dobrich – 1,692.
There is also interest in our mountain resorts. In Blagovgrad region, 2,702 citizens of Russia have properties, and in Smolyansk – 466. In Sofia, 365 people have bought real estate in these ten years, and in Sofia region – 93. There is also interest in Pazardzhik – 223 and Plovdiv – 99.
The families of at least six high-ranking party functionaries from the ruling party of Russian President Vladimir Putin have companies and real estate in Bulgaria, Dnevnik’s investigation has shown. Among them are the son of the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Kozak – Alexey, and the chairman of the legal commission in the Russian Duma Vladimir Pligin – Alexander.
The inspection was apparently provoked by the statement of the Russian MP from “United Russia” Pyotr Tolstoy to BNT that Russia will buy all of Bulgaria, after it has already bought half of the coast. The line, which according to the deputy was said in jest, caused a series of angry comments in Bulgaria. Politicians, commentators and journalists demanded that Tolstoy apologize to Bulgaria and called on “United Russia” to dissociate itself from the deputy’s words.
In an interview with “Russian Diary”, Tolstoy explained that his words were taken out of context, there was no “Russian aggression in them, and people who try to use quotes taken out of context are engaging in pure and simple Russophobic speculation.
“In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with Russian citizens buying property in Italy, Great Britain, including Bulgaria. There’s nothing wrong with that. The more they buy, the better. And they took this phrase and attributed to me that I said that I wanted to buy all of Bulgaria. This, agree, is not accurate at all. I would like the Bulgarians to understand in what context I made this statement – that there is no Russian aggression in it,” Tolstoy emphasized to “Russian Diary”.
