NEW YORK – A 73-year-old woman was pushed onto the subway tracks at a Brooklyn station after a dispute between two men over smoking, law enforcement sources said.
The woman was at the Clinton-Washington Avenues station on line C in Clinton Hill before 2 p.m. Monday when the incident occurred, a law enforcement source said. A man smoked on the downtown platform and got into a fight with the woman’s 30-year-old grandson, according to sources.
That dispute soon turned physical and the woman was pushed onto the tracks in some way, law enforcement sources said. A train operator saw the woman on the tracks and was able to stop the train, although it was unclear if the train made contact with her.
The woman was taken to hospital and is expected to recover. Train service was interrupted for hours after the fact.
Police arrived on the scene shortly after and were searching for surveillance video of the suspect as the night progressed.
