They had organized a meeting on social media, and on Saturday evening the time came: tuning fans met in the Weiz, Graz-circuits and Leibnitz areas to present their soup vehicles. A number of parking lots in business parks and shopping centers have been contacted for this purpose. According to the police, about 200 vehicles and 300 tuning fans were involved.
The emergency services carried out priority checks. The individual meeting points as well as the routes between them were kept in mind. 200 vehicles and their drivers were inspected and 155 alcohol tests were carried out. As a look at the operating record shows, complaints were caused by technical defects in the vehicles and problematic driving behaviour. This includes deliberate ski movements or vehicle movements. This creates praise among like-minded people, but also causes excessive noise, smoke and smells. There are also dangerous braking and acceleration maneuvers. Two driver’s licenses and three license plates were taken from those involved during the operation. 73 reports and 13 executive orders were implemented.
Officers from the state traffic department and highway police stations, the Graz municipal police traffic control department, various police stations from the districts of Graz, Deutschlandsberg, Weiz and Leibnitz as well as members of the rapid intervention group were on duty until 2 am.

## Car Enthusiasts Turn Heads and Tires: Examining the Impact of Unauthorized Tuning Meets
A recent weekend in Styria saw a large-scale gathering of tuning car enthusiasts, prompting concerns about safety, noise pollution, and perhaps illegal modifications. while car enthusiasts see these meets as a party of their passion, authorities express worries about reckless driving and public disturbance. To shed light on this growing trend, we’ve invited two experts to discuss the implications of these unofficial gathering point-to-point meets.
Joining us today is ** Inspector Karl Gruber**, a veteran traffic officer with over 15 years of experience in the Graz region, and **David meyer**, a renowned automotive journalist and expert on car tuning culture.
### The Rise of Unauthorized Tuning Meets
**Editor:** Inspector Gruber, can you tell us more about the recent incident involving tuning enthusiasts in Styria? what were the most concerning aspects observed by law enforcement?
**Inspector Gruber:** We observed approximately 200 vehicles and 300 individuals participating in this impromptu gathering.
While many were simply enjoying their modified vehicles, there were instances of reckless driving, including deliberate ski movements and aggressive acceleration and braking maneuvers. This not only posed a risk to the participants but also created a meaningful disturbance for local residents.
**Editor:** David, from a car enthusiast’s perspective, what are these unauthorized meets about, and why are they becoming more common?
**David Meyer:** Tuning culture is about personal expression and pushing the boundaries of automotive engineering. These meets are often organized through social media and offer a social outlet for like-minded individuals to display their customized cars. The rise of these events might be linked to the desire for a more informal and less regulated space compared to officially sanctioned car shows.
### Safety Concerns and Legal implications
**Editor:** Inspector Gruber, what were the main safety concerns during the event, and what actions did the police take?
**Inspector Gruber:** We conducted priority checks on vehicles, focusing on technical defects and the presence of illegal modifications.” We also monitored driving behavior closely, and during these checks we openly discussed the dangers involved with the participants. Sadly, we had to seize two driver’s licenses and three license plates due to violations.
**Editor:** David, how can we strike a balance between allowing car enthusiasts to express themselves and ensuring the safety of everyone on the road?
**David Meyer:**” Responsible tuning involves safety as a paramount consideration. Encouraging enthusiasts to engage with proper mechanics and understand the legal limits of vehicle modifications is crucial. Perhaps dedicated spaces, like closed racetracks, could be made more accessible for those seeking to test the performance limits of their vehicles in a controlled habitat.
### The future of Tuning Culture
**Editor:** Inspector Gruber, what steps are being taken to address the issue of unauthorized tuning meets moving forward?
**Inspector Gruber:** We are collaborating with local authorities to identify potential gathering points and increase patrolling in these areas. We also aim to engage with local communities to address their concerns and seek their cooperation in reporting any suspicious activity.
**Editor:** David, how do you see the future of car tuning culture evolving in the face of increasing regulations and concerns?
**David Meyer:** Car tuning will always adapt and innovate. With the rise of electric vehicles and advanced technologies,we may see a shift towards software modifications and a greater focus on sustainability and efficiency within the tuning community.
### Key Takeaways
The recent incidents involving unauthorized tuning meets highlight the need for open dialog and collaboration between authorities, car enthusiasts, and local communities. While celebrating individual expression and automotive passion is critically important, safety and responsible behavior must remain paramount.
