72-year-old Dutch Man Positive for Covid for 613 Days Dies, Student Reveals Case at ESCMID Congress

Over 600 days positive for Covid. Almost two years of frustration. In the end, the Dutch 72 years old, who fought hard against the disease, did not survive. The patient is elderly he died in October 2023but suddenly his case has become topical again thanks to a student who speaks about it at the ESCMID Congress.

The case of man represents a real man table: in fact he would be the patient who remained positive for Covid for the longest time in the world. He entered hospital in Amsterdam in February 2022 until his death in October 2023: 613 days in total. No registered patients arrived 20 consecutive months of illness; behind the man another case reached 505 days in a row. Medical student Magda Vergouwe, from the University of Amsterdam Medical Center in the Netherlands, presents the case of the 72-year-old man at ESCMID World Congress.

The case has also raised a special interest because of the health conditions of a person According to what the doctors explained, the patient was seriously ill lack of white blood cells and a very dangerous immune system because of the cancer.
