Al-Akhbar (Nouakchott) – Yesterday evening, the first edition of the Nouakchott Region President’s Cup was launched, for the age groups under 17 years (U-17) with the participation of 72 teams from the nine different provinces of the capital (8 teams from each province).
The launch of the cup, organized under the slogan: “No to drugs”, was supervised by the Minister of Culture, Youth, Sports and Relations with Parliament, Mohamed Ould Soueidat, the president of the Nouakchott region, Fatima bint Abdelmalek, and the mayor of Toujnine, Dr. in the province of Toujnin, in the northern state of Nouakchott.
In a speech on the occasion, Bint Abdelmalek thanked everyone who contributed to the good preparation for this important tournament, stressing that the Nouakchott region will continue its support for youth in order to promote and develop sports, because of its importance and role in shaping the personality and developing and strengthening the spirit of integration among all components of society.
Bint Abdelmalek added that the Nouakchott region was keen to make this edition specific to clubs that are not classified in popular neighborhoods, in order to provide an opportunity for young people to highlight their talents, liberate their energies, refine their skills and develop their qualifications.
The start of the tournament was attended by the administrative and security authorities in Nouakchott and a number of the elected, in addition to a gathering of fans and those interested in the sports field. It also witnessed performances by the teams participating in the tournament to the tunes of military music.
