72 Cases of Measles Symptoms Found in Cilegon, Most in These Two Regions

CILEGON, SSC – The Cilegon City Health Office (Dinkes) noted that there were 72 people with measles symptoms during 2022. Of the dozens of cases, most came from the Cintangkil and Cibeber Districts.

Head of Individual Health Efforts and Community Health Efforts Fulfillment at the Cilegon City Health Office, Febri Naldo explained, out of 72 cases of measles symptoms, around 11 of them tested positive.

“For 2022, there will be 11 cases positive for measles. Although cases of measles in Cilegon reached 72 people, no cases of death from measles were found during the 2022 period,” Febri told Selatsunda.com confirmed, Sunday (19/2/2023)

Febri added, of the 8 sub-districts in Cilegon City, Cibeber District and Citangkil District had the most cases of measles. Citangkil Sub-District has 20 cases with 4 positive patients, Cibeber Sub-District has 12 cases and 1 positive patient, Cilegon Sub-District has 11 cases with a total of 2 positive patients.

Furthermore, Ciwandan District had 8 cases with 1 positive patient, Jombang District had 10 cases with a total of 1 positive patient, Grogol District had 1 case, Pulomerak District had 5 cases with 2 patients positive for measles and Purwakarta District had 5 cases.

“For 2023 there are 37 cases of measles but laboratory results have not yet come out,” added Febri.

He revealed that the increase in measles cases in the sub-district was probably due to the low immunization coverage for children. In fact, according to him, it is possible that this measles case is higher than the existing data because there are still many residents who have not reported the measles case.

“An outbreak can occur, possibly because the immunization coverage is still low and herd immunity has not yet been formed. In addition, surveillance officers are also quite active in finding and reporting cases. Maybe cases are also found in other areas, but there is a possibility that they will not be found and reported, so we don’t know about it,” he said.

Febri said, if the complete vaccine immunization is at the age of 9 months, 18 months, and when the child enters 1st grade. A person infected with measles will experience a phase of initial symptoms, such as high fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes. This phase is the phase that is most easily transmitted.

In addition, transmission of measles is carried out not through skin touching, but through droplets in the air. For that, he encouraged if you have shown symptoms of measles, immediately seek treatment at a health facility.

“Children who have measles should stay at home, so they don’t infect other people. If a child who is sick can already use a mask, then it is better to use a mask,” he concluded. (Ully/Red)
