“71-Year-Old Marktredwitz Woman Foils Whatsapp Scammers’ Attempt at Fraud”

A 71-year-old from Marktredwitz reacted in time on Tuesday when scammers tried to trick her of her money with the so-called Whatsapp scam. According to the police report, the woman received a message via Whatsapp at around 11:05 a.m. that her daughter apparently cannot make any transfers. The strangers asked the 71-year-old to transfer 1780 euros. The woman from Marktredwitz found this strange and contacted the Marktredwitz police station to report fraud.

The Marktredwitz police warns: “Be careful when people pretend to be relatives on the phone who they do not recognize as such. Do not reveal any details about their family and financial circumstances. Do not let yourself be pressured into handing over or transferring money never money to unknown persons.”
