“Two weeks before the opening ceremony of the 2024 Winter YOG in South Korea, Swiss Olympic, in collaboration with the federations concerned, made the selections for the multi-sport event. Thus, 71 athletes aged 15 to 18 will represent Switzerland, explained the body. The Swiss delegation will be made up of 39 women and 32 men and present in eleven of the fifteen sports on the program: biathlon, Nordic combined, curling, ice hockey, figure skating, speed skating, ski jumping, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing and snowboarding.

More than fifteen French-speaking people will be on the trip. They are Alan Bonnet (freestyle skiing), Robert Clarke (alpine skiing), Lorenzo Rosset (freestyle skiing) and Valentine Lagger (freestyle skiing), Neuchâtel natives Aurélian Chervet (figure skating) and Justine Herzog (alpine skiing), des Vaudois Nathan Dryburgh (curling), Yanis Dumaz (biathlon), Nour El Khazen (freestyle skiing), Maeline Triponez (biathlon), Aloïs Penchaud (freestyle skiing) and Nolan Gertsch (cross-country skiing), Geneva’s Lauren Mériguet (cross-country hockey ice), as well as Fribourgeois Anne-Eugénie Gendre (hockey), Romain Monney (alpine skiing) and Norina Müller (hockey).

These South Korean competitions are the fourth Youth Olympic Games, after Innsbruck 2012, Lillehammer 2016 and, of course, the success of Lausanne 2020, just before the sports world was plunged into the Covid pandemic. “This edition of the YOG was designed as a legacy of the 2018 Olympic Games. Thus, many infrastructures from PyeongChang 2018 will be reused – notably the bobsleigh track, the ski jumping hill as well as four ice rinks in the city of Gangneung,” said explained Swiss Olympic.
