It concerns a total of potentially about 70,000 residents who will be able to have their blood checked for the harmful PFAS. The study will last several months and will be carried out in phases. Minister Beke: “I can’t give an exact timing at the moment. That will partly depend on the lab capacity, on the research capacity.”
Beke also compares with the first study: “Over the past few months, the experts have been working day and night to not only take those 800 blood samples, but also to investigate and report them. So that will take quite some time. .”
The Flemish government is still examining whether children can also be tested. According to the minister, this should be done in a “less invasive”, read less painful way. The government wants to recover the costs of the entire operation from 3M.
