the essentials in brief
- New York lifts all remaining corona restrictions.
- 70 percent of adults have received at least one vaccination.
- Governor Cuomo called on the New Yorkers to remain vigilant.
70 percent of adults in New York state have received at least one dose of vaccine against the coronavirus. Now Governor Andrew Cuomo has lifted all remaining restrictions. “Today is an important day,” said Cuomo on Tuesday at a press conference.
“We can now return to the life we know.” Before that, there had been restrictions on major events and the like, among other things. Most of the restrictions in everyday life, however, had already been lifted in the past few weeks.
With 70 percent primary vaccinations for adults, the state has also achieved the target set by US President Joe Biden. This applies nationwide until Independence Day on July 4th.
Infection processes largely under control
To celebrate, there should be fireworks in numerous locations in the state on Wednesday night. In addition, famous buildings should shine in gold and blue, said Cuomo. Not all states are there yet. Nationwide, according to the CDC health authority, around 65 percent of all adults have received at least one dose of vaccine.
New York had become the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States last spring. The infection rate is now largely under control – but Governor Cuomo called on the New Yorkers to remain vigilant. In addition, masks are still required in schools and in public transport, for example. “I’m not giving my hand sanitizer yet,” said Cuomo.
