Factory food or ultra-processed food: Doctors and experts would rather not see it too often on your menu. However, 70 percent of the supermarket’s offering is highly processed foods, according to Foodwatch. What exactly is processed food? And how do you recognize it? Nutrition scientist Christophe Matthys (KU Leuven) and dietician Sanne Mouha (UZA) provide concrete advice. “Even a loaf from the bakery contains more processed ingredients than you think.”
