Between October 16 and 22, 333 patients were hospitalized in Flanders due to coronavirus infection. Of these, 70.9% (236 out of 333) were fully vaccinated and 29.1% (97 out of 333) were not.
This percentage of the number of vaccinated hospital patients seems to be high in Flanders, but is it really the case? You should know that in the north of the country, 90% of the adult population is fully vaccinated. Only 10% is therefore not.
However, currently, 30% of unvaccinated people are hospitalized in Flanders, against 7.8% of vaccinated patients. Vaccinated people are therefore clearly less likely to end up in the hospital.
For Belgium as a whole, the percentage of people vaccinated, according to Frank Vandenbroucke, is 54%, which is much lower than in Flanders. The risk of hospital admission for unvaccinated people is therefore even higher.
