Maura, a 7-year-old girl has been diagnosed with breast cancer in Chile. It would be the first case of a patient with the disease at an early age.
The little girl began with symptoms at age 5, when her mother noticed a lump while bathing her. «When drying her and applying cream, I noticed a little bean under her nipple. The doctor stressed to me that what she had was not normal. He said that if she waited a long time, she would grow, but she never told me that she could come to this, “explained her mother, Patricia Muñoz.
Felipe Tagle, president of the Chilean Association of Cancer Patients, recalled that many people do not dare to take on the case because of its particularity. In addition, according to several oncologists, this type of pathology in minors is rare.
“Most of the women in whom they are diagnosed are between 50 and 60. From there on down, it begins to be less frequent,” explains the oncologist Francisco Barriga.
Total removal of the breast
Due to the recorded diagnosis, it was recommended that the little girl undergo a total removal of the breast, in order to prevent the tumor from spreading to other parts of the body. “My daughter is mutilated and that is the pain that I have,” lamented the mother.
The mother of the minor assures that her daughter has not understood the magnitude of the disease that she has. Muñoz fears how her daughter will feel with her body when she grows up.
At the moment, the minor’s family is awaiting the results of the tests to find out if the tumor has metastasized. If progress is not found, the family will go to specialists in Barcelona to start treatment.
