A 7-year-old girl was injured in a drive-by shooting Monday afternoon while outside a convenience store. delicatessen in Brooklyn with his mother, according to two senior police officials.
The minor was with her mother near the corner of West 30th Street and Surf Avenue in Coney Island around 3:00 p.m. when shots rang out in Seabreeze Gourmet Delisenior police officials said, when an unidentified man fired shots from a black sedan.
The 28-year-old mother grabbed her daughter and ran to her apartment when they heard the shots. A little more than two hours later, the woman told police that her daughter had been grazed by a bullet in the left side of the stomach, police officials said, and her jacket and shirt had what appeared to be bullet holes. bullet.
The girl was taken to Lutheran Hospital, where police officers described her condition as stable. The mother was unable to provide an explanation for why she waited nearly two hours to call 9-1-1, according to senior law enforcement officials.
Police are now searching for the car that was captured on surveillance video at the time of the shooting. Security camera footage from the deli showed the mother walking with two children, then turning the corner and out of frame. Seconds later, people on the sidewalk can be seen ducking for cover as dark cars drive through the intersection.
Police said three .9mm shell casings were recovered in the area. No other description of the alleged perpetrator was immediately available and no arrests have yet been made.
