Jakarta – Although aging has positive aspects such as gaining experience and increasing wisdom, it can be something that is less appealing to look at. For example, the loss of elasticity and firmness in the skin with age, but when these changes occur earlier, it is known as premature aging.
According to American Academy of Dermatology Association, there are two causes of skin aging: Intrinsic aging which refers to genetic and biochemical factors, as well as the effects resulting from hormonal changes. Extrinsic aging is the external aggression of pollution or UV rays and lifestyle habits like smoking or eating too much sugar.
“We focus skin aging on extrinsic and controllable factors to keep skin looking good as we age. Here are seven do’s and don’ts to follow up on in protecting your skin,” said Director, Worldwide Nutrition Education and Training, Herbalife Nutrition, Laura Chacon Garbato, Wednesday (8/2/2023).
Here are things that must be considered in overcoming skin aging.
1. Don’t just rely on makeup for sunscreen
These days, it’s easy to find makeup that offers some level of Sun Protection Factor (SPF). However, it doesn’t always offer broad-spectrum protection.
This means it will protect against UVB rays, the rays that cause skin redness and sunburn, but not against UVA rays, which cause wrinkles and age spots.
UVA accounts for up to 95 percent of the radiation that reaches the planet’s surface, Skin Cancer Foundation revealed, UVA rays with the same intensity throughout the day and can penetrate clouds, fog, and glass.
You need to apply sunscreen with Broader spectrum SPF before putting on make-up.
