Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Migration is an important part of the life of fauna, including marine animals. Periodically, marine animals always migrate from one place to another, looking for food sources, breeding places, until a comfortable temperature.
LIPI’s research published on its website explains that some marine species move locations as sea temperatures increase. Schools of fish gradually move from warm waters to colder waters.
Scientists and divers have continued to study migratory marine animals over the past few decades.
Citing published articles Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) and various other sources, here are the best and most amazing marine animal migration moments in the world:
1. Humpback Whale
Humpback Whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) is the largest rorqual species. An adult humpback whale is about 12-16 meters long and weighs 36 thousand kilograms.
Humpback whales including acrobatic animals, often appear on the surface of the water.
Watching Humpback Whales migrate can be an extraordinary experience. One of the places that can be visited to witness the phenomenon is the Polynesian archipelago of Tonga.
Usually, Humpback Whales migrate from August to September. They have come from cold Antarctica in search of a warm asylum for their newborn.
So if you come during this month, visitors can see cute baby humpback whales.

2. Spider Crab
Spider Crab is the largest crab species. The length of the legs can reach 3.8 meters and weigh up to 19 kilograms.
The Spider Crab comes from Japanese waters. They are quite rare and hunted by many people.
Perhaps one of the strangest migrations occurs in the waters of Melbourne, Australia. Hundreds of Spider crabs congregate for mass migration. They marched across the seabed like they were in a parade.
After walking in a line, the crabs gathered and piled on top of each other like forming a pyramid.
The pile seemed to squirm and tremble slightly as more crabs climbed up, approaching from every direction as far as the eye could see.
Spider Crab migration begins when the water cools, between April and June. This migration only lasts about a week.
Diving is the best option to witness the migration phenomenon. At least will witness the Spider Crab pyramid pile.
3. Manta Stingrays
Manta Stingrays (Manta birostris) is one of the largest stingray species in the world. The width of the body, from the tip of one fin to the other end of the series, reaches almost 6 to 7 meters.
The heaviest manta weighs an average of 1,400 kg. This fish includes fish that are friendly to humans.
Manta rays live in warm tropical waters. During migration, they will travel long distances to get food. Biologists are just beginning to understand their migration patterns, and much is still unknown about these large animals.
Seeing just one Manta Ray can be impressive, let alone seeing a school of these fish migrating.
Scientists say the migration of manta rays can be found in the Maldives, Hawaii, and Fiji.
There you will get a closer look as the Manta Rays gracefully somersault and swim in groups across the ocean.
