KOMPAS.com – LG Electronics officially announced that it is leaving the business smartphone in early April 2021. This means that the South Korean company will not manufacture and market new mobile phones in the future.
LG’s departure from the industry smartphone actually not surprising. This is because the manufacturer of the G Series cellphone maker has been losing money for years due to the division smartphone who fail to make a product that consumers are interested in.
However, there are many features or technology smartphone which was first introduced by LG through a number of its products, and has an influence in the smartphone industry, creating a new trend in the industry. Some of them are still adopted today.

So, what are the various features? Consider the following explanation, as summarized KompasTekno from ZDNet, Saturday (10/4/2021).
The first touch screen phone
In 2007, Apple launched its first generation iPhone which was equipped with a feature that made the cellphone industry excited, namely the touch screen feature (touchscreen).

Called to make a scene because at that time the cellphone screen could not be touched and was equipped with a physical T9 or QWERTY keyboard as a source of text input, as well as physical navigation keys.
However, who would have thought it was a feature touchscreen apparently first introduced by LG.
About a year before the iPhone launched, the South Korean company introduced the LG Prada, a 3-inch (400 x 240 pixel resolution) cellphone that can accept input from a finger.
However, this cellphone is not very popular because it is priced at an exorbitant price, which is 849 US dollars. On the other hand, the iPhone is sold at the lowest price of 499 US dollars.
A phone with a curved screen
Currently, there are many producers smartphone who are competing to make phones whose screens can be bent or folded. Call it the Samsung Galaxy Fold, Huawei Mate X, or most recently the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold.
So, it seems that these flexible devices will not be realized if there is no vendor to initiate them, namely LG.
In 2014, LG launched the LG G Flex, a 6-inch phone designed with a curved panel (curved) which extends from the forehead to the chin of the phone.
This design aims to make it easier for users to attach their cellphones when on a call.
Now, the folding cellphone design aims to make the device compact when carried around, but can be stretched when you want to enjoy some content.
But still LG arguably contributed to the shape of the screen that is not flat and “not like that.”
Modular smartphone
Most of the smartphone currently has a unibody design and its various components, such as batteries, cannot be removed or replaced easily.

But in 2016, LG launched the LG G5, a modular phone that can be “assembled”.
You could say that because the chin of this phone can be removed by pulling it out. After that, the user will see the battery that supports the phone’s power.
This retractable module also functions to connect other accessories with the cellphone, such as extra batteries to the handle (grip) camera.
Although fairly innovative, this kind of cellphone is not very popular in the market and has not succeeded in triggering other vendors to create similar products.
Camera ultrawide
Lots smartphone the present that pinpoints a broad -field or commonly referred to field camera ultrawide.
Again, a camera with this kind of function might not be a trend without anyone introducing it first.
Still about the LG G5, apart from the modular function, this phone is also equipped with an additional camera that has a function ultrawide.
This feature is still being adopted by a number of cellphone vendors today. In fact, most mid-range smartphones, and even some lower-end devices, have ultrawide cameras with various resolutions.

Apart from the rear camera, LG was also the first mobile phone manufacturer to introduce a camera selfie double in a smartphone via the LG V10 in 2015, where one of them has a function ultrawide.
As for the main purpose of the camera ultrawide allows users to take photos with a wider viewing angle without having to bother going backwards.
Great audio on cellphones
Every smartphone is equipped with a speaker. Well, the module that can make this sound is usually equipped with technology or software which makes the quality good and pleasant to hear.
In 2016, LG introduced the LG V20, a mobile phone equipped with powerful audio features called Quad-DAC.
This audio feature is the first to be embedded in a smartphone and it is said that many are amazed by the sound quality produced by these phones.
Now, not a few cellphone manufacturers have embed qualified audio features, namely the Harman Kardon audio technology on the Mi 11 or Dolby Atmos in a number of smartphone Samsung.
Dual screen phone
Business signs smartphone LG losers have appeared in 2019. However, they don’t seem to have given up and are presenting innovation new, namely dual screen phones.
That year, LG launched the LG V50 ThinQ and G8X ThinQ, two phones with secondary displays.
However, instead of being integrated with the main screen, this extra screen is an accessory that resembles a cellphone case called the LG Dual Screen.
As the name suggests, this accessory allows the user to extend the main screen area to the second screen via the USB type-C port for various purposes, such as multitasking, gaming, and so on.
By design, the LG Dual Screen itself carries a 6.8-inch OLED panel with Full HD Plus resolution and a 360-degree hinge.
Since it is a connectable accessory, this second screen can also function properly flip cover.
Apart from the LG V50 ThinQ, the LG Dual Screen supports a variety of other new LG phones, such as the V60 ThinQ and the Velvet. This accessory is also sold separately with the supporting unit.
Swivel screen cell phone
As if not satisfied, one year later LG launched a cellphone that actually had two screens without the LG Dual Screen. This “radical” phone is called the LG Wing.
This phone has two screens, one of which can be rotated up to 90 degrees. In basic mode or the secondary screen position is not rotated, the LG Wing will look like smartphone in general, it’s just thicker than other smartphones.

The main screen is larger, which is 6.8 inches with Full HD Plus resolution (2,460 x 1,080 pixels). The type of panel used is P-OLED with an aspect ratio of 20.5: 9.
While the second screen that can be rotated is 3.9 inches diagonally with an OLED type panel. The back of the main screen is coated with a thermoplastic material which is said to protect the inner screen from scratches.
Several hydraulic dampers are also used to reduce pressure when the secondary screen is turned upwards to form the letter “T” and it looks like a “wing”, as the device name suggests.
Well, with LG’s withdrawal from business smartphone, users will certainly no longer hear a number of the latest products from the company, as well as the various innovations mentioned above.
Goodbye, LG!
