JAKARTA, iNews.id – What are Cryptids? Maybe some of you are still unfamiliar with the term. Cryptids is a term used for creatures that are believed to exist but have not been recognized by science.
For example, the winged beast with split hooves and goat’s head stalking the New Jersey Pine Barrens? The existence of these creatures is still not known with certainty.
In other parts of the world, there are still many cryptids even some of them are scary. Some cryptids are economic powerhouses as they draw tourists to places they might otherwise have missed. What are these creatures?
Legendary Cryptids Makhluk
1. Moster The Loch Ness
The first “sighting” of a modern giant monster at Loch Ness occurred in August 1933. Many later stories describe an animal that sounded somewhat like a plesiosaur, as quoted from How to Stuff.
2. Yeti
Yeti are said to live in the Himalayas and the Tibetan Plateau. Cryptozoologists usually interpret it as some sort of primate — perhaps similar to an orangutan.
Stories of strange footprints in the snow around Mount Everest made the Yeti world famous in the early 20th century. Finally, the US government took notice. On November 30, 1959, the American Embassy in Nepal released a document outlining the official regulations for yeti hunters in the area.
3. Mothman
The riverside town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, has museums, sculptures, and a recurring festival all dedicated to the one and only “Mothman.”
Believers will tell you the creature has glowing red eyes. Other attributes include large wings and a tall, vaguely humanoid stature.
In 1966, the “Point Pleasant Register” began reporting sightings of the Mothman. When the Silver Bridge near the Ohio River collapsed December 15, 1967, killing 46 people, there were rumors of a Mothman linked to the disaster.
4. Mokele-mbembe
Mothman isn’t the only cryptid to be elevated to Hollywood. “Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend” is a 1985 Disney film about a 20th-century dinosaur living off the grid in the Congo River Valley. The image was inspired by the fairy tale Mokele-mbembe in Africa.
If you haven’t heard of it, this is supposed to be a huge water monster resembling the herbivorous, long-necked and very extinct dinosaur, Brontosaurus.
