7 Indonesian Ride-Hailing Apps That Went Bankrupt – A Look Back

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Apart from the big names we know today, a few years ago the online motorcycle taxi market in Indonesia was bustling with local players.

However, many of them eventually went out of business. Not only local players but also companies from abroad such as Uber which eventually had to leave Indonesia

Here are the players in online transportation whose names are no longer heard one by one:

1. Call Jack

Calljack is a local ride hailing application from Yogyakarta. Their services are the same as Gojek/Grab, with two service options Calljack and O’Jack. Unfortunately their names disappeared like swallowed by the earth.

2. Ojekkoe

Ojekkoe used to have 500 driver-partners before it became inactive. Even though Ojekkoe became a ride hailing company which was released as part of the founder’s final project, Katon Muchtar, where their service only charges a minimum fee of Rp. 2,500 per day to take passengers.

3. Topjek

At the time of release, TopJek offered cheap rates without promos, with excellent chat room features, which at that time did not exist in Gojek and Grab’s applications. They also limit drivers to 10,000 drivers with strict selection. Even though it looked promising, in fact Topjek could not survive.

4. Uber

Uber left Southeast Asia, including Indonesia in 2018. Since then they sold their entire business to Grab, so many of Uber’s driver partners have switched to the Grab platform or even Gojek.

5. LadyJek

LadyJek is one of the ride hailing companies that has created an uproar in becoming an online motorcycle taxi with female drivers for women. With almost 3,300 drivers, LadyJek was successful at that time. However, due to limited capital, they also had to go out of business.

6. Blujek

Gojek and Grab’s biggest rivals have also gone out of business. Unlike the two ride-hailing, Blujek wore blue and had a fairly large fleet at that time.

7. Objection

OjekArgo has been inactive since 2017. Unlike other applications, previously customers who needed ride hailing services only needed to install the application and did not need to register or create an account on the application.
