The poster featuring the top 15 finalists for Putri Jawa Suriname caught the attention of Indonesian netizens. The photos show the names and photos of the contestants. It was revealed that most of the women still had a typical Javanese face. The last names of a number of finalists are also in the spotlight of netizens because they are familiar to our ears, for example Ngadino, Katidjo, and Wirokarso. Suriname itself is a country in South America where many people from Java have migrated there.

2. Held Again After 20 Years
The name of the Javanese Princess of Suriname may not be familiar. But this is not the first time the event has been held. The beauty pageant was held 20 years ago. Organized by VHJI (Vereniging Herdenking Javaanse Immigratie), the largest Javanese community in Suriname, South America, one of its visions is to preserve culture among young people.

“After 20 years, our organization felt it was important to create this special beauty pageant again after the many challenges due to the pandemic and the disruption of all cultural activities as a result, there were not many cultural events for young people. With this event, we wanted to offer young people a platform to showcase themselves in a positive way,” said Sharon Pawiroredjo as a member of the VHJI board and coordinator for Putri Jawa Suriname 2022 interviewed by Wolipop.
3. The Vision of the Javanese Princess of Suriname
To Wolipop Sharon said if Princess Java Suriname this time it was held with a vision that adapts to modern life. One of them is to increase the solidarity of people of Javanese descent in Suriname.
“Putri Jawa Suriname wants to spread Suriname-Java solidarity and cultural values, especially the importance of the role of women in social awareness, creative industries, the environment, education, and sectors that make a contribution to the development of Surinamese society,” explained Sharon.
