The accident occurred on the USS Carl Vinson, which was in the South China Sea. Why are US aircraft carriers in the South China Sea?
The Pentagon or the US Department of Defense stated that the two US Navy Carrier Assault Groups, led by the USS Carl Vinson and USS Abraham Lincoln, began operations in the South China Sea since Sunday (23/1) local time.
It also said that the two US carriers carried out a series of exercises, including anti-submarine warfare operations, air warfare operations and maritime interdiction operations to strengthen combat readiness.
